Ancient History, Archaeology and Culture, University of Gorakhpur

Presently, National President, ABISY (Akhila Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana)

 

BIO-DATA  AND  RESEARCH  CONTRIBUTIONS 

Born on 18th July 1934 at Gorakhpur, U.P., India.  

 

Education: M.A. (First Class) in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology from Banaras Hindu University in 1956. Ph.D. in 1965 under Professor C. D. Chatterjee, the doyen of Buddhist scholarship and Asokan studies.

 

Teaching Experience: 39 years (July 1956 – June 1995) first at Banaras   Hindu University and then at the University of Gorakhpur.

 

Research Guidance: Supervised research work for over 30 years producing a large number of doctorate-degree holders

 

Research Contributions:

A.    Published several original books and a large number of research papers in   

      reputed journals (list attached).

 

B.  Completed UGC Major Research Project “Vedic Horizon in Archaeology”

                        in December 1999.

 

C.  As a Senior   Fellow, ICHR (Indian Council of Historical Research),  

 New Delhi, completed another Research Project “Harappan and Rigvedic 

 Ethno-Geographic Configurations” in March 2002.

Academic Work in Foreign Countries:

 

1.  Was sent to Greece by Government of India under the scheme of Exchange of Scholars between the two countries, and worked as Greek Government Scholar at the National University of Athens for two years, 1969-71.

 

2. Studied Greek language at the National University of Athens, and wrote a research work entitled ‘The Neolithic Age in Greece’ 1969-70.

 

3.   Participated in ‘Ancient Greek Cities Project’ at Centre of Ekistics, Athens, 1970-71.

 

4.  Visited ancient sites and utilized museum and libraries in several foreign countries like Egypt, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, France, England and USA.
