Born on 18th July 1934 at
Gorakhpur, U.P., India.
Education: M.A. (First Class) in Ancient
Indian History, Culture and Archaeology from Banaras Hindu
University in 1956. Ph.D. in 1965 under Professor C. D. Chatterjee,
the doyen of Buddhist scholarship and Asokan studies.
Teaching Experience: 39 years (July 1956
– June 1995) first at Banaras Hindu University and then at the
University of Gorakhpur.
Research Guidance: Supervised research
work for over 30 years producing a large number of doctorate-degree
holders

Published several original books and a
large number of research papers in
reputed journals

“Vedic Horizon in Archaeology”
in December 1999.

a Senior Fellow, ICHR (Indian Council of Historical Research),

‘The Neolithic Age in Greece’ 1969-70.
