Philosophy
Introduction
The word Philosophy does not map well into the kind of
subject matter that is dealt with in the 6 darshanas that are generally
considered part of Hinduism and are loosely referred to as the
Six Systems of Philosophy
stemming from the Vedic heritage of the Hindus , although they do not all
subscribe to the primacy of the Vedas. These 6 systems are called

Advaita (generally attributed to Gaudapada but largely
propounded by Adi Sankara
Dvaita (propounded by Madhavacharaya)
Vishishta Advaita ( propounded by Ramanujacharya)
The reason why Indian darshanas are considered to be more
encompassing than either metaphysics (Brahmavidya) or Metaknowledge is that in
addition to describing the goal of human existence, they go about systematically
detailing how to attain the goal. These 4 paths or Margas or Yogashastra
Bhakti Yoga
Karma Yoga,
Jnana Yoga
Raja Yoga
